During our presentation, current peer-reviewed literature on the topic of eating disorders and bariatric surgery will be summarized. Surgical procedures, expected outcomes and pros and cons of each procedure will be reviewed. Challenges in the current screening process will be highlighted. We will discuss strategies for identifying and supporting individuals at risk for developing eating disorders pre and post-surgically and will share our experience with treating this subgroup. Furthermore, we will share our protocol that modifies a traditional eating disorder program in order to adapt to the complicated nutritional needs of post bariatric surgery patients. The presentation will include a review of a case series of individuals treated at our facility. Audience participation is encouraged and the session will be of interest to beginner and advanced treatment providers, patients and family members.
