Spotlighting Tele-Mental Health: Technology's role in Prevention, Treatment, Research and Policy with in the Eating Disorder Population

Virtual therapy represents a natural evolution of the therapeutic relationship, as it allows for a consistent schedule of therapeutic care via video teleconferencing, encrypted emails, online chat and simulated environments - even when clients can't attend face to face sessions. However, as therapists leverage these innovations, they remain responsible for the therapeutic process, the ethical delivery of services, the ethical management of social media, maintaining licensing board's standards of care and guidelines, as well as compliance with HIPAA and HITECH federal standards. This presentation will discuss the challenges, as technology is advancing more rapidly than government and licensing boards have been able to adjust.
